Why is summer an important time for central heating

Boiler issues? Why summer is the best time to get them sorted

We get a lot of enquiries during the colder months about have a new boiler or urgent calls for breakdown repairs. In most of the discussions it’s been something the homeowner has been considering for some time, but then got forgotten about during the warmer months.

Let’s face it, central heating and boilers are not a very sexy thing to spend money (well we think they’re sexy but we recognise that’s not normal!).  We get that. So it when the weather is nice, there are days out to have, holidays to enjoy and lots of other nice things to think about (and spend your money on!), boilers and central heating become the bottom of the list.

Then winter comes around again and those problems are suddenly more urgent because the heating either can’t be relied on, or it’s got increasingly inefficient and expensive to run.

Boiler repairs and installation in Chelmsford can take time. So here are some things to consider sooner rather than later…

1. It can be hard to get a heating engineer at short notice in winter

In winter, boilers are working at their absolute hardest and are therefore more prone to having problems and breaking down, particularly if they’ve not been maintained and regularly services.

For that reason it is a notoriously busy time for reputable heating engineers – dealing with breakdowns and repairs so that families and the elderly in Chelmsford are warm becomes an obvious priority for us.

The better and more reputable the engineer, the bigger their list of customers. If your boiler breaks down and can’t, or shouldn’t be repaired, replacing it is a bigger job and can take us some time to fit in. Also certain models of boilers can be harder to get hold of due to demand.

We’re pretty sure that you would much prefer to use a heating engineer who you can trust, has lots of training, knowledge, experience and excellent reviews, instead of someone purely because they’re the only person available.

So whilst the summer isn’t exactly a ‘fashionable’ time to arrange for a boiler to be repaired or installed, this is precisely why you should seriously consider contacting us (or another installation company) during a season when the sun is increasingly out and we have more time to help you.

2. The luxury of time

Regardless of whether it’s spring, summer, autumn or winter when you come to read this, if your boiler still functions adequately but you’re unsure how many months longer it can last, or is being temperamental or making different noises, it’s well worth making use of the time you now have to scrutinise and compare your options.

There is an almost overwhelming number of boilers and types out there to choose from and it can take time to research and decide on which is the most suitable for you e.g. a combination boiler, conventional heat-only boiler or system boiler. It’s a sizeable investment, and not one which should be rushed.

Here at Chelmsford Gas Services, we can provide guidance around which boiler to choose for YOUR home and needs, and design the right heating system which is reliable and as efficient as possible.

Efficiency is vital so we only install A rated appliances such as Viessmann and Intergas boilers. (As an aside it’s important to note that A-rated appliances don’t necessarily perform at A-rated level unless they are installed properly.)

3. What to do right now...

If you’ve not had your boiler checked and serviced for more than a year, book a full, quality service now. It’s important to note that a proper service is not a 15 minute safety check, it’s far more in-depth than that and should always be carried out to the manufacturer’s specific instructions for that model.

You might want to consider taking out our Boiler Plan, which includes an initial health-check and full service of your whole heating system, plus breakdown cover and maintenance to keep your system healthy, reliable and efficient. You can find out more and set that up quickly and easily.

If your boiler is getting old and concerning you in any way and you want to consider getting a replacement, either contact us or take a look at our boiler quote tool using the buttons below.
